Farm Softball
An introduction to softball for 7 and 8 year old girls. Practices are station based, focusing on fundamentals of the game in a fun, continuously moving environment. During the games, all players play the field, batters will be pitched to by a coach, with a continuous lineup so each player hits every inning. No score is kept and coaches assist players while in the field. Teams will be limited to 6-9 players to allow maximum instructional opportunities for all players. No previous experience required.
**6 year olds may play in this division ONLY IF they have played a year of AVLL T-ball
Practices – 1-2 times per week. Day of week TBD
Games – 1 game per week. Day of week changes based on schedule. AVLL is a part of the Cortland Softball league which includes other towns. There will be some travel involved. Once we determine how many teams AVLL will field, the schedule will be made and released.
Location – Coolidge Field, Maynard

Minor Softball
This is a competitive softball division for 9 and 10 year old girls (as of 1/1/2022). 8 year old players may try out for this division and will be selected based on ability and availability of teams. This division is designed to bridge the competitive gap between our instructional Farm division and Major softball.
All games have umpires and follow Little League International softball playing rules. AVLL and the Cortland League add supplemental rules to allow developmental instruction to continue at this level.
Practices – 1-2 times per week. Day of week TBD
Games – 1-2 games per week. Day of week changes based on schedule. AVLL is a part of the Cortland Softball league which includes other towns. There will be some travel involved.

Major Softball
This division is competitive softball for 11 and 12 year old girls (as of 1/1/2022) following Little League International rules. Younger players may be invited to try out for this division based on ability and availability.
This is the most competitive level of AVLL softball. League Officials will select the Assabet Valley Little League Tournament team from this division. All players must play a minimum number of games to be eligible. The Little League Tournament team at this level is for 11 and 12 year olds only.
